Shrewd Quality Musical Services is an organisation made up of some of Melbourne's leading freelance performers. Whether it be performing on the concert hall stage, roving throughout a corporate event, performing for a school audience or working as costumed characters, Shrewd provides an outstanding level of professionalism, fun and energy. With a performance history ranging over 20 years, their experience and diversity are unmatched by any professional brass ensemble in Australia.
Tom Ryan – Trombone
He's the boss and supposed to be the best player. A tough and demanding leader who is generally ignored and ridiculed by the rest of the band.
Experience includes: Good Morning Australia, Moovin and Groovin Orchestra Grand Wazoo, Radio 3LO, Radio 3AW, Hey Hey It's Saturday, The Brass Knuckles, Session Work for Television Advertisements, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Itchy Feet Pep Band, Radio Rhythm Orchestra, Johnny Hawker Big Band, Olympics Bid Orchestra 1999, Circus Trombone Quartet, Australia Brass Ensemble.
Greg Spence – Trumpet
Apart from playing trumpet very well has recently taken up gymnastics though is now reconsidering after an unfortunate accident with his leotard and was subject to a sitting ovation.
Greg is the author of his own method book "Mystery to Mastery". He is lead trumpet on Dancing with the Stars, and has perfomed on: In Melbourne Tonight, Hey Hey it's Saturday, Australian Show band, and been involved with countless session work.
Richard Debolfo – Tuba and Vocal
The lady killer and resident heavy metal aficionado of the band. Rich has aspirations of becoming lead singer – we think he sounds better with a tuba on his mouth.
Experience includes: Lounge (corporate and private functions, annual festivals), Shrewd Brass (schools concert tour of the Northern Territory), Australian Pops Orchestra (national tour supporting Sir Cliff Richard and Olivia Newton-John), Wacky music comedy (tours to New Zealand, Darwin and Sydney; Australian F1 Grand Prix; Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival), performed in the Melbourne production of Chicago.
Scott Rice – Drums
The rock pig in the band - Scott gets this title not because of his rock fame but because he smells like bacon and people like to throw stones at him.
He was in The Jaynes and toured extensively through Asia and Australia headlining various festivals and support slots for international acts as well as high profile Australian soloists and bands such as: Tina Turner, Hootie and the Blowfish, Joshua Kadison, John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes, Diesel, Badloves, Chocolate Starfish, Taxiride, Mr Palmer, Geer.
Martin Macaulay – Tuba and Drums
As a musician he makes a fine shoe salesman though every band needs one – a tuba player that is. Has been known to show up at gigs uninvited – we're the only ones who'll have him.
Experience includes: Wacky, Itchy feet Pep Band, Australia Brass, Funky Brass Monkey
Katy Addis – Trumpet
The band babe and the sensible one. The bands collective IQ make it about half way to KT’s. KT is pretty much in charge and humours them by allowing them to speak and think that they are making decisions.
A classically trained trumpeter who has performed with many ensembles including the Melbourne Symphony, Tasmanian Symphony, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
